These restricted types were found only on the ridge crest connecting Mt. Beaufort to Thumb Pk. (plate 7; fig. 6, locality 12). Mor humus occurred in pockets between the exposed rock of the ridge. Canopy height was 7 m in the gap and c. 5m on the ridges. Epiphyte cover was very heavy, extending down to the tree bases on the ridges, but bryophytes and lichens were rare.
The distinctive flora was characterized by Quercus merrillii, Radermachera gigantea, R. pinnata, Ficus ampelas, F. glareosa, Scaevola micrantha and the endemics Calophyllum pulgarense , Cinnamomum rupestre and Knema latericia subsp. latericia var. subtilis. The latter two have only recently been described. The trees Bielschmiedia cf. gitingensis, a Viburnum sp. and Glyptopetalum cf. loheri may be new species.
The herb layer was dominated by an acaulus Pandanus sp. and Dianella ensifolia. Two Bulbophyllum species and a Selaginella sp. grew as lithophytes in exposed areas. Nepenthes philippinensis formed dense mats on the exposed rocks of the cliff tops and at the forest edge on the south-facing side of the ridge. A stemless Pandanus formed dense patches on the ridge's north side. Calamus foxworthyi was collected here for the first time on Palawan since 1906.
Both roots and shoots were produced from nodes on the lower part of the stems. A small population of a pink-petioled Heterospathe dransfeldi was discovered and once again the species is probably new.
